Today show host Allison Langdon has delivered a brutal take down of Meghan Markle, saying the Duchess of Sussex “doesn’t help herself” over comments she made concerning how she would like to be played were a movie or TV show be made about her life.
Discussing the Duchess’ most recent interview with Variety magazine with the Daily Mirror’s royals editor, Russell Myers, Langdon seemed incredulous over the Duchess’ comments on how she would lend her acting expertise to an actor who played her.
“Hang on, so she is saying, ‘When someone will play me, I will counsel them as to who I am and how to play me,’” Langdon said.
“I mean, come on; she makes it hard for herself,” Langdon said.
Her co-host Karl Stefanovic also couldn’t help making a jibe, saying the Variety pictures of the Duchess looked like a “bikie’s tattoo”.
“It looks like it’s on someone’s bicep … Someone’s mum tattooed on their shoulder,” Stefanovic said.
Langon replied, “I can’t say I saw it, but now that you have said it.”
Langon and Markle have form with one another, after the Duchess used a sound bite of Langdon criticising her in her podcast in September, using it as an example of sexism in the media.
Langdon, who said Markle had been “lucky” to land Prince Harry, the brother of the Prince of Wales, said she had “steam coming out of her ears” after hearing the sound bite for the first time.
“All I know is that I had a lot of mates who liked Meghan for a long time and now none of them do,” Langdon said.
The episode featuring Langdon’s comments was the Stigma of the Singleton.
“When I started dating my husband, and we became engaged, everyone was just like, ‘Oh my god, you’re so lucky he chose you,’” Markle said in the interview, before playing the audio of Langdon.
In August, Stefanovic mocked Markle for her reaction over a fire that broke out in her child, Archie’s bedroom.
Markle had been highly critical of the Royal Family after that fire, telling media she felt unsupported by them.
