Ardeer, Melbourne robbery: Police appeal for information following alleged shooting

Police are calling for any information about an alleged burglary after a man was shot in the face in Melbourne’s west.

Armed Crime Squad detectives allege a group of men had been attempting to access a property on Maxweld Street about 1.30am on October 25, 2022, when they were interrupted by a man from a nearby house.

Two shots were allegedly fired towards the 59-year-old Ardeer man, one of which struck him in the side of the face, causing damage to his eye.

The second did not strike the victim.

He was taken to hospital with serious but was not being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Newman said investigators were calling on the community for any possible information about the burglary or shooting.

“This is a particularly concerning incident – such a reckless use of firearms has left one man with potentially life changing injuries,” he said.

“We understand that incidents such as this one cause significant concern across the broader community.

“Rest assured; the indiscriminate use of illicit firearms remains a key focus for Victoria Police.

“We are committed to targeting those involved in this type of offending and holding them to account.”

The unknown offenders then fled the scene in three vehicles – two dark coloured hatchbacks and one red compact SUV.

Police have today released CCTV of the three cars they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries in the hope someone can provide information about their whereabouts.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and or has dashcam footage should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
