Pakenham: Dad-of-six Nick Kennon saves teen from alleged sexual assault

A passer-by saved a Melbourne teenager from being allegedly raped in a park when he heard her screams from the road opposite.

Father-of-six Nick Kennon was walking through Eastone Reserve in Pakenham on Melbourne’s eastern fringe at around 7pm last Friday when he noticed something wasn’t right.

“I could hear screaming literally from the other side of the road. So she put up a real good fight,” Mr Kennon told Channel 7.

“Instincts just kicked in and I took off and ran across the other side of the lake.”

An alleged sexual assault against an 18-year-old woman was underway. The woman has said she was pinned to the ground by her throat and her underwear had been removed.

“I saw what was unfolding and it had to stop it,” said Mr Kennon.

“I couldn’t stand by doing nothing. I made sure the girl was all right.

“I removed the guy off her and restrained him until the police got there.

“He was trying to get away and I wanted to make sure that he didn’t – that he was held accountable for his actions.”

Mr Kennon made a citizen’s arrest and then held him for more than five minutes until police arrived.

A 21-year-old faced court on the weekend charged with attempted rape and sexual assault, reported Channel 7. He will remain in custody until his next court hearing in May.

The good Samaritan played down his actions.

“I’m glad I did what I did,” he said.
