Golden Slipper 2023 fashion: Samantha Armytage, Kate Waterhouse, Lucia Hawley stun

One of the most elegant fashion events on the racing calendar, the Longines Golden Slipper Day, has begun at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens.

A host of celebrities descended on the venue, including Kate Waterhouse, Samantha Armytage and Karl Stefanovic.

The star-studded guest list is encouraged to pull out all the sartorial stops, with the Longines Prize for Elegance fashion competition recognising the “most elegant” female and male on the day.

Kate Waterhouse, the daughter of racing royalty Gai Waterhouse, kicked off the fashion stakes in an unconventional grey Fendi suit.

The 7 Racing reporter, known for her stunning race day looks, accessorised the two-piece with a pair of chunky, black Valentino heels, and a contrasting mustard Bulgari bag as her “touch of gold”.

Meanwhile Lucia Hawley, the 24-year-old daughter of TV presenter Antonia Kidman and niece of Australian actor Nicole Kidman, stunned in a sleek dress by Dion Lee.

The fitted gown – with a corset-style bodice top – featured knitted sleeves and knit panelling throughout, with at interwoven halter neckline.

Hawley recently landed a major presenting role as the face of Live From E! on the new 7Bravo channel after years of “working towards” a career in TV journalism.

“I am so lucky to have them both (mum and aunt) as role models – not only are they amazing at their jobs, but they also have a really strong sense of self and are very intellectual as well,” she told The Daily Telegraph of her new gig.

“This is honestly like a dream come true. I always wanted to present and red carpets are naturally what I gravitate towards, so it came about pretty serendipitously.”

Race day fixture and recently-announced Farmer Wants A Wife host, Samantha Armytage, looked classic in a linen suit alongside husband Richard Lavendar.

Armytage added a pop of colour to her outfit with an orange clutch and bejewelled headband.

Autumn Carnival Ambassador, Grace Hayden, looked elegant in a figure-hugging cream dress with statement sleeves by Melbourne-based Cappellazzo Couture. Hayden paired the sleek look with a matching bow fascinator.

Like Hawley, model Sarah Stephens also repped an Australian designer, stunning in an $890 Rachel Gilbert mini dress with sculptured cream detailing on the bustline.

Stephens matched the look with black point-toed heels and a khaki YSL bag.

Former The Bachelor contestant Holly Kingston brought some colour to the field, in a sleeveless, bold red dress.

Kingston, who won Jimmy Nicholson’s season of the reality show, paired the look with a large-brimmed black hat, black opera gloves and a black YSL purse.
