The photo uploaded to Instagram showed Clarke with one hand on the coffin as he walked away from the microphone after delivering a eulogy at his grandfather’s funeral on Monday.

“Never gets any easier,” Clarke wrote.

“In losing my Grandfather, I lost a best mate. I feel blessed to be surrounded by so much love on an extremely tough day.

“RIP Pop.”

Support came flooding in for Clarke, with friends and family passing along their love for the former cricketer who has endured an emotional few months.

“Sorry to hear that news, mate,” Channel 7’s Larry Emdur wrote. “Wishing you and the family all the best.”

Businesswoman Erina Peters said: “I’m so sorry Michael! He truly loved you so much.

“I have so many funny memories with him over the years and he was never short of a cheeky comeback.”

Clarke previously said his grandfather was his inspiration to play cricket and said the hardest part of retiring from the sport was informing Ray.

“Definitely telling my grandfather was perhaps the hardest part and he was very emotional,” he wrote in 2015.

“Pop’s made it clear to me over the past 10 years that watching me play cricket is a big part of what keeps him going.”

The former Test captain was last month dropped from a lucrative TV role in India and lost ambassadorial gigs, including one with clothing brand R.M. Williams, following a public spat with his girlfriend Jade Yarbrough.

The fight began when Clarke and Yarbrough were joined for dinner in Noosa on January 10 by Karl Stefanovic and his wife Jasmine, who is Yarbrough’s sister, as well as celebrity accountant Anthony Bell.

It’s understood Clarke’s celebrity fashion designer ex-girlfriend Pip Edwards and Yarbrough had been in contact, sparking the confrontation between the former Australian cricket captain and his partner.

The footage showed a shirtless Clarke limping in a park surrounded by a group who are trying to calm the situation, while a furious Yarbrough screamed at him then slapped him across the face.
