Riley Jordan: Alleged murderer in court after injured Daniel Cockerill dumped at hospital

A Melbourne man has briefly faced court charged with murder after a dying man was allegedly dumped outside a hospital.

Riley Jordan, 40, sat slouched in a chair with his arms crossed in front of him as he appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court shortly after 2pm on Friday.

Police say Mr Jordan was arrested earlier the same day and charged with murder following an interview with homicide investigators.

The charge relates to the death of Daniel Cockerill, 45, who was allegedly dumped outside Casey Hospital in Melbourne’s outer east on March 26.

He was allegedly found about 7.30am with a stab wound to his upper body and died at the scene.

Last week, police released CCTV images of a maroon sedan leaving the scene in the hopes it would lead to information about Mr Cockerill’s death.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a second man, 37, was interviewed on Thursday and released without charge.

Documents released by the court indicate police will allege Mr Jordan murdered Mr Cockerill in Berwick on the day he was allegedly left at the nearby Casey Hospital.

In court, Mr Jordan was remanded into custody and will next appear in court in September.
