Singapore Airlines gives all passengers free wifi


Singapore Airlines is giving all its passengers free wifi — even those in economy.

It’s a move that will see the Changi-based airline become the first in the world to offer such a comprehensive wifi service.

The carrier already offered free complimentary wifi to passengers sitting in its ultra-luxe Suites class, as well as First Class and Business Class customers and its top tier PPS Club members.

And earlier this year, its KrisFlyer loyalty members in Premium Economy and Economy got to enjoy three hours and two hours respectively of free wifi.

But as of July 1, passengers across all its cabins will have access to the service which will be unlimited after the airline removed the time caps.

Singapore Airline’s senior vice president of customer experience, Yeoh Phee Teik, said the move was an important step.

“In today’s increasingly hyper-connected world, high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity is one of the most important requirements for our customers,” he said.

“Giving them access to free unlimited wifi is yet another milestone in SIA’s continuous effort to offer an exceptional end-to-end travel experience.”

It will be available on all aircraft except for the seven Boeing 737-800 NGs that are not wifi enabled.

“With this enhanced offering, our customers will be empowered to stay connected, entertained, and productive, even at 36,000 feet in the sky,” Mr Phee Teik said.

To enjoy the service, customers must enter their KrisFlyer membership details at the point of booking through the Manage Booking online option, or at check-in.

Non-KrisFlyer members may also sign up for their membership online — which is free — or on board their flight via the SIA digital content portal on their personal mobile devices to enjoy the complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi.

The move comes after the airline recently announced an extra 7000 seats a week between Australia and Singapore.

Singapore Airlines regional vice president Louis Arul said the decision to significantly ramp up the airline’s operations across major Australian airports is to help support the expected high-levels of demand.

“The appetite for travel has been robust over the current mid-year holiday period and signs are that demand will remain elevated as we head into the traditionally strong year-end peak,” Mr Arul said.

Meanwhile, the airline nabbed fifth spot in Airline Ratings’ ‘World’s Best Airlines for 2023’ awards.

It also took out the title for ‘Best First Class’ alongside being named Best Airline South-East Asia.

Air New Zealand took out the overall title as the best airline in the world, followed by Qatar Airways, Etihad and Korean Air.
