Sunrise host David Koch hints at replacement

Departing Sunrise host David “Kochie” Koch has hinted at who will replace him as host on the morning TV show after more than two decades at the helm.

The veteran host made the shock announcement that he would be hanging up his boots as host on June 9 during a live segment on Monday’s show.

Speaking with Nova radio show hosts Fitzy & Wippa on Friday, Koch finally revealed some more detail on who would be taking over his empty seat at the host desk.

“I can guarantee you this, that my replacement will be younger and better looking,” he teased listeners before joking that the two radio hosts would be out of the running.

“So I was going to say you were both in the running, but then I just had another look at you,” Koch said.

The Seven Network has remained tight-lipped on who will be replacing Koch ahead of an announcement scheduled for Monday.

Fans of the show have been placing their bets on two likely frontrunners for the hosting position.

Former Australian sprinter and regular fill-in host Matt Shirvington seems like a natural fit for the spot, but speculation has also surrounded a media personality who recently signed with the network.

Celebrity vet and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Outta Here host Dr Chris Brown is slated to start at the network next month, but no word has emerged yet on what his new role will be.

Despite all the rumours, Koce said he would be leaving the tough decision up to the network.

“I‘m leaving that all up to the list managers. That’s what they do,” he said.

Koch has hosted the program since 2002 and will appear as host for the final time on June 9.

He is expected to remain a familiar face at the network with more daylight appearances and a focus on finance reporting.

“I’m not dead, I’m just working business hours,” he told the radio hosts.

The time feels right. I’m so much older than you guys, and it just feels right to get a bit more flexibility back in my life.

I’ve got my family businesses, my footy team and I’ve got a bucket list of things that I want to do.”
