Two Perth schoolgirls have spent their last day of school for the year in hospital after the e-scooter they were riding collided with a car.
Police say an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old were taken to hospital after the incident, which occurred near the intersection of Farmaner Parkway and Birkett Circle in Ellenbrook on Thursday.
Witnesses say the young girls were riding along Birkett Circle when they crashed into a Nissan Patrol at about 9am.
“I think it’s just a warning for all of us to be careful when we let our kids ride electrical scooters,” one witness told Sunrise.
The 11-year-old was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital with a broken leg, while the 13-year-old was taken to St John of God Midland with a broken pelvis.
Current WA laws only allow for e-scooters to be ridden by children under the age of 16 if the device is not capable of exceeding 10km per hour.
Speed restrictions are in place, allowing a maximum speed of 10km/h on footpaths and 25km/h on shared paths and local roads.
