Former Sri Lankan cricketer Farveez Maharoof had an awkward moment during a live TV interview.
Chatting with sports broadcaster Neroli Meadows during coverage of a Lanka Premier League match on Saturday, the ex-bowler was pooped on by a bird. Meadows was quick to notice the embarrassing incident.
“I think you were surprised by what just happened to you,” Meadows said to Maharoof.
The commentator quipped: “Maybe my good luck today,” followed by a laugh. He then carried on with his match commentary.
Meadows was laughing hysterically, joking that the “Kandy Falcons have struck early here in Colombo”.
Maharoof was eventually cleaned up later in the show and joked that he hoped it was his “good luck day”.
“In Sri-Lanka they say that’s the good luck coming in,” he added.
Meadows posted video of the unpleasant yet amusing scene on Twitter, with many users commenting on the clip.
“S**t happens ,” one person joked.
“Indeed it does ,” another agreed.
“Fair play to Maharoof, man gallantly carried on as if nothing had happened ,” a third said.
This is not the first time a sports star has been pooped on by a bird on TV.
Back in June, UK tennis star Jack Draper was pooped on by a bird mid-interview before his Eastbourne International semi-final.
Speaking on Amazon, the 20-year-old said it was great to play better guys in the world, as he looks to improve on his first round exit from Wimbledon last season, his first and as yet only taste of grand slam action.
“Playing these guys, and beating these guys, is really important for me, and significant,” he told Amazon.
“But, at the same time, I know it is on a grass court as well. I know that this season is short and there is not a lot of players who earn a living on the grass court.”
But Draper was distracted while giving his answer, saying: “I’ve just been pooed on by a bird.”
The host thought he was bitten by something and was let laughing at the Brits plight.
“Is that good luck?” Draper asked.
He also wasn’t alone, revealed: “My coach got that yesterday, as well, so it’s good luck.”
