SA man in hospital, second 22-year-old man arrested over nightclub attack

A man has been arrested and charged following an alleged assault in a notorious city night-life strip in the early hours of Friday morning.

Just before 5am on Friday, police were called to Hindley St in the Adelaide CBD following reports a man was seen unconscious after an assault.

The man, 27, from Seaford Meadows, was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital after allegedly being punched in the back of the head and knocked unconscious.

A suspect, described as being caucasian with a shoulder-length blond mullet, was last seen walking east on Hindley St before turning north onto King William St.

At around 10.30am on Friday, police arrested a 22-year-old man from a Para Hills address.

He was later charged with assault causing harm, and released on police bail.

He will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in February next year.

An employee of The Woolshed nightclub on Hindley Street told The Advertiser witnesses were shocked by the altercation, which took place on the footpath in front of the club.

“You always hear about it in Hindley St, but you never expect it to happen,” she told The Advertiser.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

It comes after a string of assaults and arrests on the popular nightclub strip in the past year – one of which landed seven men behind bars after an alleged gang rape of two women.

In November, an 18-year-old woman faced court after a video of her alleged assault on two Hindley Street Maccas workers went viral online.

The footage of the altercation has been viewed thousands of times, and shows Mia Miller allegedly yelling at two alleged victims, before hurling a drink at them.

She also allegedly punched a staff member in the head, before spitting on both employees.

Earlier in the year, a trio of country men required emergency service assistance after they scaled the side of a nightclub building and climbed onto the roof of a veranda.

Police said two men were stuck on the first storey roof of The Woolshed nightclub, while the third was stranded on the roof of the building’s veranda two floors up.
