Perth woman stacks her own $40 product in Coles after store runs out


A Perth woman who rejected a $300,000 offer on Shark Tank has recently landed a Coles deal after making it on to the coveted Forbes rich list with her beauty business.

Iris Smit, 27, is currently raking in $15 million a year in revenue with her Quick Flick beauty brand that she launched with a “game changing” eyeliner stamp in 2017.

Her business also recently made the Forbes Asia 30 under 30 list just four years after launching with $10,000 she “scraped” together.

The entrepreneur has now expanded the brand’s range to include two SPF50+ facial sunscreens and landed a Coles deal as a result.

But the successful businesswoman hasn’t always found life in the fast-lane easy, telling news.com.au’s The Beauty Diary there have been “dark” days during her climb to the top.

“My life sounded good on paper. I had what many would consider the ‘perfect life’ or I seemed very lucky,” she said.

“I had my dream car and apartment, my business was booming, I was more financially comfortable than the average person my age.”

However, following a painful break-up in 2019, Iris felt like she was on “an emotional rollercoaster” she described as “exhausting”.

“Some days I was fine, other days I felt like I couldn’t function,” she said.

“I also experienced crippling anxiety during certain periods, to the point where I couldn’t breathe which would then result in panic attacks.

“I thought I was so broken beyond repair and started to have really dark thoughts. I still remember the voice in my head wishing there was a reset button on my life because I felt so broken.”

Eventually, Iris sought help and embarked on a therapy journey which she credits as the moment “everything started to change”.

Three years on, and Iris – and her business – are both in a much better place, allowing her to expand on Quick Flick’s range by adding sunscreen to the mix.

There are two SPFs in the offerings, a moisturising cream which retails for $40, and a “finishing spray” version, also $40, both of which are sold in 820 Coles stores nationwide.

“WOW. Feeling so grateful right now because I just launched my @The Quick Flick Quick Screen sunscreen range into 820 Coles stores,” Iris wrote on TikTok earlier this year.

“This is such a big moment for me and definitely a highlight of my business journey thus far.”

Iris has amassed a loyal following on TikTok documenting her journey from start-up to fully fledged business owner hiring 25 employees.

And in a recent clip, Iris proves she’s not afraid to get stuck in when issues arrive, showing herself replenishing empty Coles shelves after popping into the supermarket and noticing her item wasn’t on display.

“My visit to Coles today did not go to plan,” she said.

“When I got there, there was no product on the shelf, no tickets. Luckily I found the manager – yes I am one of those people – and it turns out they just received stock last night.

“He just like left me with these boxes and was like, ‘You know how to stack these right?’”

Many praised Iris’ efforts but some questioned why a bottle of sunscreen was “so expensive”.

“These products are also more than just sunscreens. They come with beauty and skincare benefits so you’re getting multiple products all in one,” she replied.

“They are also made in Australia with all vegan and cruelty-free ingredients that are more expensive to source and make.”

Quick Flick now sells an array of products, including brow gel, false lashes and of course the eyeliner stamps and SPF50+ spray and cream.
