New details about the wheelie bin used to hide a murdered man’s torso have come to light, as the police investigation into his death and the location of the rest of his body continues.
Geoffrey McLean, 55, went missing from the northern Adelaide suburb of Andrews Farm in August last year.
His torso was found in a wheelie bin on a vacant block in a Salisbury South park in October.
His head and limbs are yet to be found.
Police confirmed on Thursday the wheelie bin used to discard some of Mr McLean’s body parts had been stolen from an address about 900m from the scene in Eastview Street at Brahma Lodge.
Police allege the wheelie bin was stolen some time after his murder.
Major Crime Investigation Branch’s Detective Inspector Brett Featherby said the owners of the wheelie bin are not connected to Mr McLean’s murder, and did not immediately realise their bin was missing.
He said officers were appealing to the public once again for anybody who might have seen someone acting suspicious in the area to contact police.
“Today we are asking for public assistance to help identify if anybody has knowledge of who may have stolen the bin,” Detective inspector Featherby said.
“It may be that someone saw the bin actually being stolen or wheeled along Eastview Street at Brahma Lodge, or Cheviot Road at Salisbury South.
“They may have even seen someone loading the bin into a vehicle.
“We are conducting a letter drop in this area today to identify if there are any members of the public that may be able to assist progressing this investigation.
“It can’t be discounted that those responsible for the theft of the bin may be involved in Geoffrey’s murder, and may live in close proximity to where the bin was stolen or have local knowledge of the area.”
Anyone who may have dashcam footage taken in last two weeks of August 2022 and into September 2022 from Eastview St in Brahma Lodge, Cheviot Rd in Salisbury South, and the roads in close proximity are also urged to contact police.
The discovery comes a day after detectives made another public plea for a caller who provided information previously to Crime Stoppers to contact officers again.
Investigators say the information provided by that caller was accurate and credible.
The caller is being urged to contact police again and provide additional information to help solve the brutal murder.
Police allege Mr McClean had been the victim of four violent attacks at his Andrews Farm home prior to his murder between 10 April and 10 May 2022.
It’s alleged these may have been connected to his murder.
