Billionaire Ed Craven, founder of stake.com, named as man who left $10k tip at Gilson South Yarra

Australia’s youngest billionaire has been named as the mystery man who left a $10,000 tip after dining at a Melbourne eatery.

Crypto kingpin Ed Craven, co-founder of online casino stake.com, was outed as the customer who left a young waitress the generous tip at a South Yarra cafe on Saturday.

The high-flyer established the global cryptocurrency gambling platform in 2017 alongside business partner Bijan Tehrani, the Herald Sun reports.

Mr Craven is also known for his multi-million dollar property portfolio which includes a mansion in Toorak he purchased for a staggering $80 million in August last year.

He also owns a lavish four-bedroom house in Toorak worth $38.5 million and a four-bedroom, four-bathroom uni in Southbank worth $12.5 million

The self-made billionaire’s net worth is believed to be an estimated $1.1 billion, so his generous donation to an “extremely grateful” hospitality worker was far from breaking the bank.

University student Lauren was the lucky recipient to bag an ounce of Mr Craven‘s fortune while working at Italian restaurant Gilson on the weekend.

The crypto kingpin spent more than $500 on food and drinks, before leaving a generous tip on the bill and handing it to Lauren.

The waitress explained to the group that staff share tips between the restaurant’s 23 staff, however the man paying said he’d only leave a tip if she got 70 per cent of it, telling her to keep $7000 for herself and split the rest with her colleagues.

Lauren said she thought she must have misheard the customer and so asked him to repeat the amount he wanted to tip.

“I keep going over and over in my head the actual experience of it happening second by second … (it) was surreal and amazing,” she told Seven News.

“I made them say the number out loud because I thought ‘what if I have just gotten too excited and I’ve stupidly read an extra zero or something like that.

“I am just extremely grateful, to know that they thought that much of my service is amazing.”

Gilson’s is a trendy Italian eatery frequented by social media models, influencers and reality TV stars.

Lauren said she is contemplating using the unexpected money on an overseas holiday.

“I’ve been able to think what can I do with this? I’ll be honest, I’ve never been overseas, so the first thing that everyone was saying to me was ‘go on a holiday’,” she added.

“That money’s going to help a lot.”
