Auburn police shooting: Man shot dead by police after entering police station with knife

A man was allegedly shot and killed by police after he walked into a western Sydney police station with a knife.

The man attended Auburn Police Station at 12.08am on Tuesday and allegedly threatened officers with a knife, NSW police said..

Officers immediately performed first aid on the man until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The man was taken to Westmead Hospital but died a short time later.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

It is believed he was the same man who allegedly stabbed a 28-year-old man five minutes earlier at Auburn Railway Station. Neither man is known to one another.

The younger man was treated by paramedics at Auburn Railway Station before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

A critical incident team comprised of officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.
