Police free two children left inside hot car parked at Sydney shopping centre

Police smashed a window to rescue two young children who had been left inside a hot car in a shopping centre car park.

Officers were called to the car park in Dee Why, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, after shoppers spotted the kids – aged one and four – inside the Honda on Monday.

The children were removed from the car shortly before the driver of the car returned with bags of groceries.

The woman was spoken to by police but has not been arrested or charged.

“After attempts to unlock the vehicle were unsuccessful, police broke the window to gain access,” NSW Police said.

“Two children – aged one and four – were located inside the vehicle and were assessed at the scene.”

Neither of the children were injured.

Earlier this month, a three-year-old boy died after his father accidentally left him in his car for about six hours on a 34C day.

Arikh Hasan was found dead in the back of a Toyota Corolla in Glenfield, in Sydney’s south west, on February 2.
