Perth man slapped with 40 child sexual charges on top of other offences

A Perth man has faced court today in relation to dozens of historical child sexual offences he has been charged with.

Detectives charged the 48-year-old man with 40 additional charges “as a part of their continued investigation into historical sexual offences against a child under his care”.

Police seized several electronic items as a part of their investigation and allege they contained child exploitation material.

The Mount Nasura man is alleged to have indecently filmed children in public places, including outside several schools in the Perth metropolitan area.

He was charged with one count of possession of child exploitation material, 12 counts of indecently recording a child under 16 and 27 counts of an indecent act in public.

These charges come on top of a slew of alleged sexual offences against a young teenage girl in his care including 12 counts of sexually penetrating a child under 16 years.

Police allege the man indecently and sexually assaulted the girl between 2016 and 2018 who was 14-years-old at the time of the first offence.

At the time of the alleged incidents, the man was a qualified mental health nurse, who worked for a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in regional WA, police said.

“His behaviour is believed to have been of a predatory nature, to prepare a child or young person for sexual activity at a later time,” a WA Police spokesperson said.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives urge anyone with information relating to this matter, or any similar incidents, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
