A crime scene has been declared at the scene of a large factory fire where two firefighters were rushed to hospital.
Two female firefighters have been hospitalised – including one in a critical condition – the fire broke out at a factory south of Brisbane overnight.
There are 18 fire trucks on the scene and two more en route as part of a major effort to contain a blaze on the Pacific Highway at Slacks Creek.
Emergency crews were called just before 2.30am to reports of large amounts of black smoke.
A man suffered minor injuries and was also transported to hospital.
A warning was issued to residents in the neighbouring area just after 3am to shut doors and windows as smoke gushes from the site.
“There is a large amount of smoke in the surrounding area, including Springwood,” a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said.
“Nearby residents are asked to close windows and doors and those suffering from a respiratory condition should keep medications close by.”
Traffic on the Pacific Highway is being seriously affected at this time.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution and to the conditions.
