The Service NSW worker who was stabbed multiple times in an unprovoked attack is “doing well,” according to the most recent report from his family.
On Friday morning Daniel Horta, 55, was stabbed multiple times in the lower back, chest, and shoulder while on shift at the Haymarket Service NSW Centre in Sydney’s CBD.
Mr Horta required first aid from police and treatment on the scene from paramedics, he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
Punchbowl man, Mahmoud Salhab, 37, has been charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was refused bail.
A statement from Service NSW said Mr Horta was “recovering in hospital and doing well” after undergoing surgery.
“We are in touch with his family to receive regular updates on his condition,” it read.
“Service NSW thanks the community for its ongoing support.”
The inner-city service centre, where the incident occurred, has been closed since the attack at about 9.20am on Friday, and will reopen at 8.30am on Tuesday.
Customers have been advised to visit other Service NSW centres in the meantime, with the nearest located in Wynyard.
On Saturday, Mr Salhab’s lawyer attempted to move his client to a mental health facility, however the request was denied by a magistrate.
NSW Police will allege the 37-year-old, who is “extremely well-known to police,” produced a knife after a “short conversation with a female employee”.
The matter will next be heard at the Downing Centre Local Court on June 23.
