34yo turns heads hoisting McLaren Senna GTR car into $39 million Melbourne penthouse

A collectable luxury car worth $3 million has been craned into a penthouse worth $39 million in Melbourne by a businessman.

Adrian Portelli’s McLaren Senna GTR was lifted 57 levels to the top of the Sapphire by the Gardens building on Exhibition Street.

The 34-year-old entrepreneur and tech businessman first made headlines after bidding $4.5 million to buy his first-ever home on The Block’s Season 18 in November.

The car, fitted out with racing decals, will not be driven and instead act as the apartment’s “centrepiece”.

“It’s going to sit in the lounge room, I want it to be the first thing you see when you walk into the penthouse and you see the car and overlooking all of Melbourne,’’ Portelli told the Herald Sun.

“I can’t drive it anyway, it is a race car and you can’t register it in Australia unfortunately. It’s sitting collecting dust back at my place so I might as well turn it into an art piece.

“Considering everyone is meant to be at work it is a good turnout.”

Portelli also made it clear the apartment will be his weekend residence.

Portelli has made his wealth from managing LMCT+, Australia’s largest and fastest-growing car community, which focuses on luxury vehicles and prestigious houses.

Portelli described the purchase of the penthouse as “spontaneous,” and noted that the McLaren‘s placement was a challenging mission.

The entire side of the building had to be deconstructed to make way for the car. However, he hopes that the car has found its forever home and will be sitting in the lounge room for guests to ogle.

The penthouse is not expected to be completed for another 12 to 18 months.
