Budget airline Rex to fly Sydney to Adelaide for $99

Airline Rex has announced it will begin flying of Australia’s busiest routes.

The new flights between Sydney and Adelaide will open up important connections for cost-conscious travellers.

The new offering will take off from June 29, with daily flights travelling between the two cities operated by Rex’s Boeing 373-800NG aeroplanes.

A special launch price means that fares start at just $99 each way. Business class fares can be snapped up for $399.

The new route is an important step to bettering the airline’s connectivity after Adelaide was added to Rex’s map with a Melbourne-Adelaide route in March 2021.

It opens up connections between regional NSW and Adelaide (via Sydney) and regional SA and Sydney (via Adelaide). New connections between Adelaide and Brisbane (via Sydney) will also be unlocked.

“This new route brings us one step closer to our ambition to fly between every capital city in Australia. More new routes will be announced shortly,” said Rex deputy chairman John Sharp.

“I would particularly like to thank Adelaide Airport for its co-operative approach, forward thinking and ongoing support without which we would not have been able to launch this new route.”

Adelaide Airport managing director Brenton Cox said the flight launched at a perfect time for SA parents.

“This service provides South Australian passengers with more choice when flying on our second most popular route, and will start in time for the July school holiday peak,” he said.

“I congratulate Rex on recognising the future growth opportunities on this route. Rex has been a great supporter of the Adelaide market, including regional links, for many years.”

South Australian Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison, too, welcomed the additional flights, saying they made for important connections between Adelaide, the rest of Australia and the world.

“We’re already seeing very strong performance from Adelaide Airport, and we absolutely welcome further commitment from Rex to add extra – and importantly new – flights from Adelaide to Sydney, one of the key aviation partners for South Australia,” Ms Bettison said.

“It’s another step towards a total recovery for domestic passenger traffic, and an important link to our valuable international markets.”

The new Sydney-Adelaide route is made possible by the imminent arrival of two additional aircraft which will increase Rex’s domestic fleet to nine Boeing 373-800NGs. The airline has signed a letter of intent to lease the two aircraft from Singapore Airlines from mid-2023.
