CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment a man appeared to flee a bottleshop without paying but he was immediately stopped as the doors failed to open.
On Tuesday, The Bottle-O Beechboro in Western Australia shared CCTV footage of the moment a man seemingly headed towards the cash register to pay, only to make a last minute dash for the door with his drinks.
Police have been notified about the incident, and are working with the bottle shop in a public appeal for information to identify the man.
In the footage, the man, in a red checked flannel shirt, can be seen carrying a 12-pack of drinks in a white box.
He walks towards the counter area but instead turns and runs towards the glass sliding doors.
However, to his surprise, the doors do not open.
He paces back and forth awkwardly and tries to pull them apart before realising he has no way out.
He then takes a walk of shame back to the counter where he leaves his drinks with the staff member.
The man then heads back towards the door and is able to open it and leave.
The Bottle-O’s Facebook page shared the police report number and asked followers if anyone knew the man , with the aim to help police identify the man.
Comments on the post applauded the staff worker, who seemingly remained calm during the whole situation.
“A brave woman at the till! Good on her,” one said.
“How embarrassing for him,” said another.
“How dangerous, what if he got violent? She put herself in a terrible situation and got lucky.”
WA Police said no one had been arrested and nothing was stolen at the location.
