White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge arrives in Sydney for speaking tour


White Lotus creator Mike White and star Jennifer Coolidge have spoken about the possibility of filming the third season of the iconic series in Australia.

The pair arrived in the country to participate in a Vivid Ideas talk on Saturday about the internationally acclaimed show.

White Lotus was renewed for a third season last year, after the first two seasons were set in Hawaii and Sicily.

While the location of third season of is still in doubt, creator Mike White said Australia “ticked all the boxes”.

“My dream would be to hit every continent,” White said.

“This (Australia) would have to be its own continent, so we kind of have to come to Australia.

“There’s a huge wealth of talent here and the beauty inarguable – it feels like it checks all the boxes.”

He was joined by long-term friend Ms Coolidge for the speaking event at Sydney’s Aware Theatre.

During the event, which is part of Vivid Sydney, the pair discussed the show’s social satire and Coolidge’s “Cool-naissance”.

After many late nights in Sydney, the award-winning actor described being in the city as “like a fairy tale”.

“I’ve had a lot going on and I wanted to do something fun,” she said.

“Australia has always been fun. The people are fun, it’s a happy crowd.

“It is an incredible escape to happy times here. When I was asked to go, there wasn’t any hesitation.”

The TV actor became a household name after her role in the acclaimed HBO series, with the second series airing last year.

The 61-year-old actor has starred in a number of TV and movie roles throughout her decades-long career.

Prior to White Lotus, Coolidge was best known for her role in TV sitcom Two Broke Girls.

She went on to star alongside Australia’s Murray Bartlett in the first season of White Lotus, where she became a fan favourite.

Speaking ahead of the Vivid event, Coolidge joked about her character’s demise in the second season during which she fell off a boat.

“I have been offered some boat rides,” Coolidge said.

“I think I‘m going to accept them.”

For White, the speaking tour marked only his second visit to Australia.

The actor previously visited Sydney with his father while competition on the Amazing Race TV show.

“My dad was like cramping and fainting on the ferry,” White said.

“The entire time it was like a train wreck in slow motion.

“I was like, this city is beautiful. I need to come back here.”

Host Ben Law described the pair’s speaking tour as a “big win” for Vivid and Sydney.

“We’ve got Jennifer and Mike giving us all the intel about the behind the scenes goings-on at White Lotus,” he said.

“As a massive White Lotus fan as a screenwriter as a survivor contestant like Mike White is I could not wait to deep dive with these two.

“They’ve got so much to offer in terms of telling us about amazing storytelling, incredible characters. “
