Anthony Albanese will be one of the hundreds of thousands of Aussies fighting to get their hands on tickets to see Taylor Swift’s blockbuster tour.
The Prime Minister, who last week outed himself as a big fan of the American singer, said he was looking forward to seeing her when the Eras tour makes its way Down Under.
“Many Taylor Swift fans have been Ready For It, since she announced her Australian tour dates today,” he said.
“I’m proud to have been exposed as a Swiftie when I quoted Shake it Off during the last election campaign.
“I’m looking forward to seeing her live.”
Mr Albanese outed himself as a major fan of Swift last week and revealed he’d picked up the 1989 album on vinyl after her song got him through a turbulent period on the campaign trial.
“I think she’s terrific, and I think that she’s empowering of young women. If people actually listen to Shake It Off, the lyrics are fantastic. I quite enjoy her,” he told Perth radio.
Fans woke to the news the global superstar would be coming to Australia in February for just five nights in Sydney and Melbourne.
It means millions of fans from across the country and New Zealand will be desperate to get their hands on a ticket to one of the most anticipated stadium tours in years.
But Swift’s snub of other capital cities had some state governments wondering if there was Bad Blood between them.
Within hours of the 12-time Grammy winning artist’s announcement, Swifties launched a petition on charge.org calling for Brisbane to be included on the tour.
South Australian fans, including the daughter of Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis, were left heartbroken by the news the Anti-Hero songbird would not be visiting Adelaide.
“I’m really disappointed for those South Australians who are Taylor Swift fans,” he said, encouraging Swifties to write to the singer-songwriter on social media to urge her to change up her plans.
Elder MP Nadia Clancy said she might even file a grievance motion in the state parliament next week in a bid to bring Swift to Adelaide.
Despite being the only Aussie city to be visited by Coldplay, Perth was also left off the list. Assistant Minister Patrick Gorman joked it was a “Cruel Summer that has Sweet Nothing for Perth”.
“We have a Taylor-made venue at Optus Stadium. WA is Ready for It,” he said on Facebook, quoting a number of the singer’s songs.
“No Bad Blood, I am confident the swifties of WA will use all their powers to Change this.”
