Sinead O’Connor spoke about her pain over losing her son Shane to suicide in her final tweet before her death.
The legendary Irish musician, who died on Wednesday, had responded to a tweet by the Inspirational Quotes account just last week, which asked: “Tell me how your life is going using emojis.”
O’Connor shared crying face emojis and the hashtag: “Lostmy17yrOldSonToSuicidein2022”.
“Been living as undead night creature since,” the 56-year-old added to the emotional tweet on July 17.
“He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally I am lost in the bardo without him.”
The singer also shared a photo with Shane, where the two were smiling with their arms wrapped around each other.
The troubled 17-year-old tragically died in Dublin last January, one day after escaping suicide watch in hospital. He had been hospitalised following two previous attempts.
O’Connor paid tribute to him in an Instagram post following his death.
“The very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God,” the Grammy winner wrote.
“May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby, I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
The Nothing Compares 2 U singer’s death was confirmed by her family on Wednesday in a statement to RTÉ.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad,” the statement said.
“Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
O’Connor had struggled for years with her mental health.
In recent years, fans had become concerned when she posted some public messages on social media that sounded suicidal.
However, in 2016, she denied ever attempting suicide, declaring in a social media post that she was “far too too f**king happy” for that.
O’Connor is survived by her three remaining children, Jake, 36, Roisin, 27, and Yeshua, 16.
