Politics, Victoria: Protesters head to Melbourne CBD to rally for former Pakistani leader Imran Khan’s freedom

Protesters have rallied together in one Australian capital city, calling for a former world leader to be released from custody.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been convicted of corruption charges, with an appeal to suspend those charged turned down by a Pakistani high court on August 9.

On Sunday, protesters rallied in Melbourne, calling for the former leader and cricket star to be freed.

Attendees took to social media during the rally to share their thoughts, with one claiming Khan’s arrest was “killing democracy.”

“Protest against Imran Khan’s imprisonment, human rights violations and killing democracy in Pakistan,” one person captioned a video on Twitter.

People were waving flags and holding Imran masks.

It comes as Khan was sentenced to three years imprisonment on corruption charges.
