Tourists can’t get over WA hotspot Emma Gorge

It’s a “stunning” location that’s quickly gaining traction on social media as Aussies and tourists alike discover its picturesque features.

Emma Gorge is one of the Kimberley’s most spectacular and accessible gorges, set in the one-million-acre wilderness of El Questro.

Located in the East Kimberley, Emma Gorge is El Questro’s most Instagrammed location, with almost 8000 posts of its tranquil waterfalls and ancient mountains.

WA-born ex-supermodel Megan Gale recently visited the site during a family trip to the region.

The 48-year-old mother-of-two shared a series of snaps posing from the crystal-clear waters.

“Front runner for favourite moment of the holiday,” she captioned the post.

Gale was pictured wearing a green one-piece swimsuit as she effortlessly posed before the waterfall.

She also treated her Instagram followers to other snaps from her trip, describing it as “truly memorable”.

“It was also very special to take Shaun and the kids to a part of my home state that they had never visited before and I can’t wait to share some of our magical experiences, so stay tuned,” she wrote.

“Only a few short hours away (at the most) Western Australia is a true beauty that you need to explore. Pop it on your ‘must visit’ list!”

And Megan isn’t the only one to boast about Emma Gorge’s beauty.

A pair of travel bloggers, who go by the Instagram handle ‘Vanlife with her’, described the gorge as “unlike anything we have ever seen”.

“Emma Gorge felt like the ultimate day spa with this stunning contrasting rainforest wall of greenery dripping below into a turquoise lagoon,” they wrote in a post.

“At first we didn’t know if it was accessible by 2WD but the two water crossings were fine.

“It’s $12pp for a day pass to El Questro, and the Emma Gorge hike is 3.2km return from the carpark.

“There’s a bit of rock hopping on the trail and you can swim in a turquoise pool 200m before Emma Gorge as well.”

Others have described it as their “all time favourite gorge”.

“Just such a beautiful paradise,” one person wrote on Instagram.

Another added: “Standing under the most beautiful waterfall you could ever imagine. I was so overwhelmed with joy, I burst out laughing. An unbelievable moment of absolute perfection.”

Other avid travellers have also been bombarding TikTok with clips of the “stunning” location.

“Absolutely magic!” one person captioned their clip.

A Tourism WA spokesperson said given “the natural beauty and serenity” of Emma Gorge, it’s no surprise it has emerged as a popular TikTok location.

“Accessible by an El Questro day pass or a stay at the nearby Emma Gorge Resort, visitors are quickly rewarded on their one-hour hike with the gracefulness of this unique location right on the Kimberley’s doorstep,” the spokesperson added.

To reach Emma Gorge, it’s a 50-minute drive from Kununurra via the Gibb River Road – one of Australia’s most unique four wheel drive adventures.

Access is between May and September (dry season) and transfers are available from Kununurra if you don’t have a four wheel drive.

“Join local guides or take a self-guided hike on the Emma Gorge Walk Trail into the rugged red Cockburn Ranges.” the spokesperson suggested.

“Within one hour you’ll find yourself beside the tranquil pool of Emma Gorge.

“Fed by a droplet waterfall and a thermal spring, it’s impossible to resist a swim in the crystal clear water.”

The spokesperson said other El Questro highlights include four wheel drive safaris to the spectacular Cockburn Ranges, afternoon cruises along Chamberlain Gorge, a relaxing dip in Zebedee Thermal Springs and a chance to chase the mighty barramundi.
