Geelong death: Wife finds husband body in street after dog walk

A woman has found her husband’s body in the street after he didn’t return from an evening dog walk southwest of Melbourne.

The 40-year-old man left his Western Beach Rd home, on the Geelong waterfront, about 11pm on Thursday to take his dog for a walk but never returned home.

His wife woke in a panic about 4am when she realised the dog had returned home but her husband had not.

She went outside to search for him and found his body lying beside his car where it was still parked on Malone St, in front of the St Peter & Paul’s Church.

He had sustained head injuries and died before he could be found, police said.

The exact circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be determined, but police are treating the death as suspicious.

Police are hoping to speak to anyone who may have seen the man out walking his dog on Thursday night or heard anything suspicious between 11pm on Thursday and 4am on Friday.

Investigators are also asking anyone who lives in the area or was driving through to contact police if they have any CCTV or dashcam footage.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
