Katy Perry previously revealed she knew the “real truth” about Russell Brand, as the comedian faces accusations of rape and sexual abuse.
The US pop star, 38, famously had a whirlwind marriage with the British comedian which lasted just 14 months, and has rarely spoken about the reason for their breakdown.
Brand, now 48, was hit with sexual abuse allegations at the weekend, of which he vehemently denies.
The actor got on the front foot ahead of a joint Channel Four and Sunday Times of London investigation on Saturday, sharing a lengthy YouTube video revealing he stood accused of “very serious criminal allegations”. He added the impending media reports were a “co-ordinated attack”.
Hours later, the stories went public, with Brand accused of rape and sexual assault by four women who alleged the crimes happened over a seven-year period from 2006 until 2013.
Perry, who married Brand in 2010, is yet to comment on the allegations, though a resurfaced interview has raised eyebrows in the wake of the expose about her ex.
“I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day,” Perry toldVogue in 2013.
“I let go and I was like, ‘This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me.’ So I have moved on from that.”
Perry has yet to disclose what “truth” she was alluding to in the interview.
The Roar singer, who is now engaged to Orlando Bloom, was famously dumped by Brand via text on New Year’s Eve in 2011, with her 2012 documentary Part of Me further shedding light on their tumultuous union.
Another resurfaced interview about Brand made headlines Monday, in which Australian pop star Dannii Minogue reportedly labelled him a “vile predator”.
Speaking to The Mirror back in 2006, Minogue spoke about a TV interview she had done with Brand, whom she said took things “too far”.
“He is completely crazy and a bit of a vile predator. I certainly don’t think he has cured his sex addiction, that’s for sure,” Minogue said.
“He wouldn’t take no for an answer. He always goes that step too far. Never quite far enough to slap his face, but usually too far.
“Throughout the whole interview, he kept making shocking remarks that I can’t even repeat. Just uttering the words would make me blush.”
In his video prior to the claims being made public, Brand suggested there might be an “agenda” from media organisations, and others, to target him.
He said the claims were “extremely egregious and aggressive attacks”.
“These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies,” he continued.
“And as I’ve written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous. Now, during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely always consensual. I was always transparent about that.
“Then almost too transparent, and I’m being transparent about it now as well. And to see that transparency metastasised into something criminal that I absolutely deny makes me question, is there another agenda at play?”
