Renault has issued a recall for its Koleos family SUV for a serious safety defect.
The recall notice from the Federal Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts says that parts of the car may fall off when driving.
A manufacturing defect means the outer bonnet panel and inner frame may not be bonded correctly and the bonnet outer panel may detach due to vibrations while driving.
If this happens it may increase the risk of serious injury or death to the vehicle occupants or other road users, the recall notice says.
The Renault Koleos SUVs affected were built between 2022 and 2023.
Renault is urging customers to contact their local dealer to organise a free inspection and repair if necessary.
It’s been a busy month for recalls with big name brands such as Ford, Kia, Land Rover, Mitsubishi and Subaru issuing safety notices in the past week or two.
The Koleos is the French brand’s best selling vehicle having sold more than 2300 through the first eight months of this year.
It’s a sharply priced SUV with prices starting at $40,900 drive-away for the five seat SUV equipped with a 2.5-litre petrol engine and a CVT auto that drives the front wheels.
There are also four-wheel drive versions that bring more gear and increase the price, with the most expensive model costing $51,490.
Renault has recently axed its small passenger cars in Australia and is instead focusing on selling SUVs.
It is expected to bring the electric Megane E-tech.
The Megane used to be a small hatchback but the E-tech is a five door SUV and is likely to cost more than $70,000 when it arrives in the coming months.
