Gold Coast, QLD: Wild citizen’s arrest caught on video

A wild citizen’s arrest of a teen who was allegedly joy-riding in a stolen car in Queensland has been caught on film.

The chaotic chase and arrest happened on the Gold Coast on September 30, when a Highland Reserve man spotted a badly damaged Land Rover Range Rover, which he suspected was stolen.

Instead of calling police, the vigilante hopped in his own car and tried to chase down the allegedly stolen Land Rover; the footage shows him calling out to his partner “baby I’ll be back in a second.”

A girl is seen jumping out of the four-wheel-drive, running as it speeds off down a suburban street towards a main road.

The man tries to catch the Land Rover, at times crossing on to the wrong side of the road, but turns around when it gets away from him and goes after the girl.

The man pulls up to the girl, yelling out “Oi, don’t you f**king run!”

“Stay there, don’t f**king move. Get on your knees, get on you f**king knees now,” the man commands the girl, having cornered her in a driveway and detaining her with zip ties.

A Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed officers took the girl into custody that day.

“She has been given a notice to appear for unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is due to reappear in Beenleigh Children’s Court on October 30,” the spokesperson said.

Police allege a gang of teens stole the vehicle from The Esplanade on the Gold Coast.

“The vehicle was spotted at a Illaweena Street, Drewvale address around 1.30am on October 1, where four of its occupants were taken into custody,” the police spokesperson said.

Four boys, aged 13 to 15-years-old, have all been charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and will appear in Richlands Children’s Court at later dates.
