The final heroic act of the young boy who died in hospital after being struck by a truck last week has been revealed.
Joshua Pike, 13, was hit after getting off the school bus last Wednesday, sustaining a fractured skull and being taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
The 13-year-old was placed in an induced coma but police have now revealed he has died in hospital.
In a GoFundMe set up in support of Joshua’s family, it was revealed the teenager was able to donate his organs to “enable other kids and adults to continue living their life”.
Organiser Jackie Austin explained Josh would have been itching to get home to see his dog, Xena, when he collided with the truck.
For the past week, she said he had been “fighting his beautiful little heart out to beat the horrific injuries he sustained”.
“He has fought and fought with all the power and energy he could, unfortunately the injuries were so severe that God decided to take him home.”
She said the fight he put up was “something to be in awe of”.
“Joshs’ love and kindness will live on in others, in the most positive and most giving way a young hero like Josh can,” she said.
“Josh is a beautiful kid, who lived life to the fullest. A character, a crazy crazy laugh a minute. Anyone who not only knew him, but was lucky enough to have him in their life, it was an honour.”
The teen would have gone crazy for the love he was receiving, she added.
The funds raised, which have surpassed $40,000, would go towards family expenses associated with his death, including the funeral, and any surplus funds would go to charity.
“May your beautiful little strong soul rest in peace Joshua Pike. You are very loved and will be missed more than you could possibly imagine,” the page read.
The 38-year-old man behind the wheel of the truck was uninjured and underwent mandatory testing at Cambelltown Hospital.
Investigations into the incident have continued.
