Taylor Grittner, from Cardwell, was the passenger of a vehicle that crashed on Kennedy Developmental Road at around 6.20pm on Thursday.
The driver, a 17-year-old girl, was flown to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Cairns Post reported.
The residents of Cardwell have been rocked by Ms Grittner’s tragic death.
Local mother Thea Ormonde said: .“All the kids are in shock.
“She was a beautiful girl and the community is devastated.
“It’s just a shock, you don’t know what life will bring, she was just a fun-loving girl and just so young.”
Ms Grittner was pursuing a career as a jillaroo and was employed in Greenvale by a mustering firm.
Ms Grittner’s death is the eighteenth road-related fatality in Far Northern areas this year.
