NEW DELHI: The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reportedly uncovered a copy of Adolf Hitler’s autobiography, ‘Mein Kampf,’ translated into Arabic, in a child’s bedroom at a Hamas terrorist base in Gaza, according to a BBC interview of Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
The IDF took to social media, condemning Hamas for allegedly embracing Hitler’s ideology, attributing it to the “annihilation” of the Jewish people.The post highlighted that the discovered copy featured annotations and highlights, indicating its use by one of the terrorists.
This revelation comes in the wake of Israel drawing parallels between the October 7 terror attacks by Hamas and the Holocaust, where 6 million Jews were genocidally targeted by Hitler-led Germany.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a previous statement, equated the October 7 attacks to the Holocaust, describing it as the worst act of anti-Semitic violence since that dark period. US President Joe Biden also weighed in, characterizing Hamas’s actions as “barbarism” comparable to the Holocaust.
Furthermore, Israel’s UN ambassador, Gilad Erdan, made a symbolic gesture by wearing a yellow star reminiscent of the badges Jews were forced to wear during the Nazi rule. The badge he wore read ‘Never Again,’ emphasizing that unless the world condemns Hamas for the October 7 attacks, he would continue to wear it.
In the interview, President Herzog also refuted claims that the forces were targeting the largest facility in the besieged enclave, emphasizing that “everything is functioning as usual.”
The October 7 attacks saw over 2000 Hamas terrorists breaching Israeli borders and launching coordinated assaults, resulting in the death of more than 1400 people, mostly civilians. Israel responded with a robust counter-offensive, targeting Hamas units in the Gaza Strip.
However, the Israeli actions have faced criticism from rights groups and the Arab world due to the rising civilian death toll. According to the Hamas-run ministry in Gaza, over 10,000 people, including 2,500 children, have reportedly died amid the ongoing Israeli offensive.
