A man has been charged with the murder of a grandmother and attempted murder of her daughter in Perth’s southeast, sparking a manhunt lasting more than 12 hours.

Police and paramedics were called to Ulandi Crt in Beckenham in Perth’s southeast just before midnight on Saturday.

They found a 63-year-old woman dead and her 30-year-old daughter seriously injured at the property.

Western Australian Police launched a manhunt for a 25-year-old man, seeking information about his whereabouts after he was allegedly seen leaving the area.

He was arrested on Sunday, more than 12 hours after the alleged incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant Keith Neubronner said police will allege an “edged weapon” was used during the altercation on Sunday.

“As a result of that we have the death of one person and the injury of another … we know an altercation has occurred, but the actual intricacies of it all, we have no idea at this point in time,” Senior Sergeant Neubronner said.

A 25-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder over the incident.

The man was located in the East Cannington area on Sunday afternoon before being charged overnight.
