Kingsford, Sydney: 12yo boy seriously injured after struck by car


A boy has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old in Sydney’s east.

The 12-year-old is understood to have been a pedestrian at the intersection of Gardeners Rd and Bunnerong Rd in Kingsford when a car mounted the footpath and pinned him against a tree.

Emergency services arrived just before 4pm, with police and firefighters working for about 40 minutes to release the boy from the wreckage.

He was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the car, a 17-year-old boy, was uninjured as a result of the collision and taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for mandatory testing.

NSW Police have confirmed the scene will be examined by specialist police.

As a result of the incident, major traffic delays have affected commuters near the area, with motorists being urged to avoid the intersection.
