Melbourne: Suspicious house fire causes the evacuation of neighbouring residents


A suspicious fire has destroyed a house in Melbourne.

Fire Rescue Victoria received multiple calls for a house fire on Koornang Rd, Carnegie in Melbourne’s south east at about 3am on Friday.

The home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

It appears no one was in the house at the time of the fire, however residents in nearby properties were evacuated with concerns the blaze may spread.

It took nine fire trucks and 30 firefighters to bring the fire under control.

Koornang Rd, between Neerim Rd and Munroe Ave remains closed as police investigate and travellers are urged to avoid the area.

Police are investigating the suspicious fire, and are yet to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
