A travel vlogger filmed a tense altercation with a taxi driver as the pair aruged over a cab fare.
The customer, Canadian content maker Christian LeBlanc, filmed the heated exchange with the 13cabs taxi driver after he arrived at the ibis Hotel at Brisbane Airport on December 17.
LeBlanc – who goes by “lostleblanc” on social media – accused the driver of trying to make him pay a higher fare and not turning the meter on.
He said the driver attempted to charge him $31.50 for the “seven minute drive” from Brisbane’s international airport to the ibis Hotel.
“I ask [the driver] to see the meter. He did not turn the meter on so I tell him I will ask the hotel for the price,” the vlogger wrote on the video.
The pair enter the hotel and speak to staff behind the front desk, where LeBlanc repeats the story, alleging again the driver did not start the meter for the trip, but tried to charge $31.50.
But the driver tells the staff the trip was “$21 with the meter” and the issue was LeBlanc “don’t want to pay” the fare.
The staff say $21 is a “reasonable” fare for the trip – and that is seemingly what is eventually paid – but not before a staff member gives the driver a dressing down.
“You don’t have to tell me what I’m doing, mate. I [follow] the road with the meter on,” the driver replies, adding the issue was the customer not wanting to “pay the money”.
As he pays for the ride, LeBlanc tells the driver he is “a piece of work” and sarcastically wishes him a “lovely evening” as he walks back to his taxi.
But LeBlanc follows the driver outside, stirring the situation more when he closes the car boot to capture the taxi license plate.
“Why did you have to touch my car, bro? Why are you f**king touching my car, bro?” the driver asks LeBlanc.
The video then captured the driver calling the vlogger an “idiot” and threatening to “f**k you up”.
LeBlanc said it was “one of the worst travel experiences I’ve ever encountered” in his eight years of globe trotting.
The video has been seen more than 2.2 million times in the two days since it was posted, with a number of comments saying a $31 fare “sounded about right”, and amazed LeBlanc made a fuss over a $10 difference.
