A reveller at a popular music festival was allegedly caught with 60 ecstasy tablets during the New Year’s Day celebrations.
Thousands of people swarmed The Domain in Sydney’s CBD to kick off the new year in style and jam to both homegrown and international acts on Monday.
Many rocked bold outfits in bright colours, with bandeau tops, sequins and fun patterns a common appearance in the crowds.
NSW Police on Tuesday revealed that 25 people had been charged with drug offences following the police operation.
The operation targeted anti-social behaviour, alcohol-related crime, and the supply of illegal drugs both inside and outside the venue to ensure the safety and security of more than 24,000 people.
During the festival, 91 people were found in possession of illicit drugs, including ecstasy, MDMA, cocaine, ketamine, cannabis and LSD, according to police.
NSW Police said six people were involved in “major arrests” and charged with drug supply offences.
Police will allege in court a 23-year-old man was in possession of 60 ecstasy tablets.
The 23-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, February 29.
A 28-year-old man was issued a court attendance notice for possessing a knife in a public place, while a 25-year-old man was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault.
Police issued 23 court attendance notices for drug offences, 24 cannabis cautions and 41 criminal infringement notices for drug possession.
Thousands of people descended on the popular Sydney festival to ring in the new year.
Festivalgoers were not perturbed by the grey and cloudy conditions or heavy police presence at the event.
Security began gearing up early on Monday morning to welcome the early bird guests hoping to party along to the sounds of Central Cee, G Flip and Sydney-based group, Rufus Du Sol.
The drug detection dog squad was out in force during the event, with police members checking patrons as they made their way into the park.
Field Day has been an annual festival staple in NSW since 2002, with the event attracting tens of thousands of people each year.
The festival boasts a range of party music, including a mix of house, hip-hop, indie and electronica artists.
