The Victorian man suspected of killing a teenager on New Year’s Day has been spotted at Melbourne airport after his extradition was approved.
Koang Wuordol, 22, was snapped bording a Qantas plane shortly before midday on Monday as police escorted him to the Northern Territory, where a murder charge will formally be laid.
He appeared calm with black fabric covering his hands as he stood with NT police officers at the airport.
Mr Wuordol was arrested on Saturday morning over the death of 19-year-old Yiel Deng Gatluak near Alice Springs on January 1.
The following day he appeared in a Melbourne court where the extradition was approved.
Mr Gatluak’s body was discovered lying on an unsealed road east of the town shortly after midday, with police immediately launching a probe into the “suspicious death”.
Thee males were arrested last week in connection with the Mr Gatluak’s death, with police on Monday charging a 17-year-old and 21-year-old with accessory after the fact to murder.
They are expected to face court today.
Mr Gatluak was raised in Melbourne before moving to Alice Springs two years ago after finding work as a mechanic.
Since his passing, he has been remembered as a “wonderful son”, with relatives gathering at the area his body was found for a vigil.
“His heart was pure and he was always happy and kind to everyone. He treated everyone with so much kindness,” a tribute to him reads.
