A teenage girl thought she was going to die after she was allegedly stabbed in the neck with a boxcutter and left to bleed out in a Melbourne park.
Kiara Williams, 16, was allegedly attacked by youths after walking home from a gathering in Greensborough, in Melbourne’s northeast, on a Saturday night in October.
After being stabbed in the neck and arm, the Year 11 student was left bleeding out at Greensborough War Memorial Park.
“In the back of my mind, I thought, ‘Am I dying right now?’ And that was scary,” she told 9News. “Everything kind of was black, my ears were ringing.”
Miss Williams didn’t know she had been stabbed in the neck until another person she was with alerted her.
She was later found semiconscious in the park by her mother and rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital where she underwent surgery.
The teenager has made a full recovery but she said the scars remain a “constant reminder” of the “scary” ordeal.
“This has completely messed up my mental health,” she said.
She now struggles taking public transport and going to the shops, telling 9News she has to “keep an eye out everywhere”.
“Whatever I’m doing, wherever I am, I’m so cautious of my surroundings now.”
Three months on, the attackers remain at large, according to the Daily Mail.
Miss Williams hopes another young person won’t ever have to experience what she went through.
“Everyone deserves to be able to walk and not be scared that they’re going to get a knife pulled on the.”
She added using a weapon to hurt or “kill someone” is “embarrassing”.
“It shows how much of a low life you are and that you’re looking for the attention.”
