Heathridge, Perth: Sleeping WA woman indecently assaulted in her own home by intruder

A woman in her 70s was indecently assaulted by an armed man, after he broke into her house and woke her while she was sleeping.

The man reportedly entered the woman’s Perth home about midnight on Sunday. He was described as wielding a knife and wearing dark coloured shorts, a T-shirt and a mask over his face.

He then woke the woman as she was sleeping on her couch, indecently assaulted her, then left the home on Montobello Ave, Heathridge a few minutes after.

Detectives from their Sex Assault Squad investigating their incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Mottolini said the woman was being taken care of by both police and family.

“It was very scary for her,” he said. “She’s good [but] understandably she’s very upset and she’s receiving support from her family and WA Police”.

Sergeant Mottolini said detectives were investigating how the man broke into the woman’s home, and that they weren’t sure if it was through an unlocked door or a damaged fly screen.

Police are going through CCTV to identify the man, and are seeking additional CCTV or dashcam footage in the area from between 12.05am and 1am on Sunday February 11.

“We want the public to be alert but not alarmed, particularly those in the Heathridge area,” Sergeant Mottolini said.

“The report we have received is concerning and it is something that we are taking very seriously.”

Those with information on the incident can contact Crime Stoppers through their website, or at 1800 333 000.
