A woman has died after attempting to save her teenage daughter at a popular beach on the NSW south coast.
Emergency services were called to Pebbly Beach at North Durras shortly after 1pm on Tuesday after reports the woman was unconscious in the water.
Two surfers were able to drag the woman onto their boards and commenced CPR before the Westpac helicopter winched her to the shore.
Paramedics continued continued to administer CPR; tragically, the woman died at the scene.
While she hasn’t been formally identified, the woman is in her 40s.
Surf Living NSW confirmed on Tuesday the woman had been attempting to rescue her daughter when it is understood she got into difficulty.
The teenage girl was also treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and remains in a stable condition.
In a statement, police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
The death marks the 14th person killed in the statements waters since the start of the summer.
In total, some 36 people have drowned across NSW since July 1 – a shocking spate of in-water deaths.
Pebbly Beach is a popular but remote swimming spot on the busy NSW south coast, about 280km south from Sydney.
It is not patrolled, with Surf Beach and Malua Bay about 30km south being the nearest beaches monitored by Surf Life Saving NSW.
