Man with knife turns up to junior footy training session and is tackled by parents


A knife-wielding man who turned up to a junior footy training session has been wrestled to the ground by angry parents.

Police responded to an incident in Hebersham in Sydney’s west around 6pm on Monday after the man arrived at the Heber Park sports fields.

He was tackled by a number adults who performed a citizens arrest before police stepped in, The Daily Telegraph reported.

“About 5:45pm today, emergency services were called to Heber Park, Herbersham, following reports of a man with knife,” a NSW Police spokesperson said in a statement.

“Officers attached to Mount Druitt Police Area Command attended and found a man, aged 25, had been detained by members of the public.

“No one was injured in the incident.

“The 25-year-old was arrested and taken to Nepean Hospital where he is under police guard.

“Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.”
