Two of Australia’s greatest sweet treats have teamed up — but the collaboration has been met with mixed feelings.
Cadbury Dairy Milk confirmed it would be bringing a Mudcake-inspired chocolate to shelves later this year.
Food blogger @russ.eats was the first to break the news, taking to TikTok to share his excitement.
“You better sit down, you know I only do breaking news if it’s got treat of the year potential,” he told his followers.
“Behind me I have the Mudcake Dairy Milk, apparently coming to life. This is massive. The Woolies mudcake is an Australian icon. F*** the lamington, this is the number one dessert we have.
“Do not f*** this up, Cadbury.”
After posting the video, many of his followers pointed out the packaging he used in the video actually said “biscuit pieces”.
“A lot of comments pointing out the fact it says ‘biscuit pieces’. I was too excited and didn’t do my due diligence, this could be a major disappointment. Only time will tell,” he said.
A Cadbury spokesperson confirmed to news.com.au the chocolate bar would indeed be hitting shelves later this year.
“Cadbury is committed to delighting consumers with the highest quality and tasting chocolate which Aussies love,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.
“We continuously innovate and evolve our portfolio to include exciting new products through flavours everyone will enjoy.
“We’re excited to share we’re about to launch one new flavour soon. For this special edition block we’ve taken inspiration from the connection Aussies have with the very popular chocolate mudcake. Inspired by the rich flavours of the chocolate cake and white icing drizzle, we’ve created our own take on a classic treat.
“The special-edition block brings together Cadbury’s delightful milk chocolate and Dream white chocolate, combined with rich choc flavoured crème and biscuit pieces.
“Cadbury Dairy Milk Mudcake will soon be available across the country. Stay tuned.”
Social media users had a strong reaction to the announcement.
“Hope it’s like the old school mudsluge Wily Wonka,” one social media user commented.
Another added: “Nooo, not biscuit pieces. It needs cake filling!!!! I don’t have high hopes for this.”
“I don’t even eat chocolate this sounds good tho,” one said.
