Emergency services were called to the highway near the Tweed Valley Way exit at Chinderah about 6.30pm.

A man, in his 20s, had reportedly fallen from a Mercedes onto the roadway and was then struck by a passing motorist, a police spokesperson said.

The driver received an infringement notice for low range prescribed concentration of alcohol and was taken to Tweed Valley Hospital for mandatory testing.
