Royal North Shore Private Hospital: Hospital evacuated after gas line rupture

A suspected gas line rupture has forced roughly 40 people to be evacuated from a TAFE and a hospital in North Sydney.

It’s understood that a contractor had been working on Westbound Street in St Leonards, and allegedly ruptured a gas line, causing a leak around 3:30pm today.

A spokesman for Fire and Rescue NSW told Newswire that no one had been injured and the gas company had quickly switched of the gas.

“The area has now been declared safe by Fire and Rescue, with the site handed over to NSW Police,” they said.

People in the nearby TAFE and the Royal North Shore Private Hospital were evacuated as a safety precaution.

More to come.
