Five seriously injured in crash at Forest Lakes in Brisbane’s south

Five people have been seriously injured in a crash between two cars, with speed being investigated as a factor.

Queensland Police say a Mercedes-Benz travelling south along Forest Lake Boulevard and a Toyota LandCruiser collided at the intersection of Renoir Crescent in the Brisbane suburb of Forest Lake about 10.10pm on Saturday.

“We don’t know the exact cause of the incident and members of our Forensic Crash Unit will be attending shortly to see if speed may have been a contributing factor,” a Queensland Police spokesman said.

“The scene behind me, from my experience, would indicate that speed may have been a contributing factor.”

A nearby resident said she heard “an almighty boom” at the time of the crash.

“Just an almighty boom. I was laying in bed, almost asleep and – just boom,” she told Nine News.

“I thought, oh, what was that? And then I just waited and waited and I thought, I’m sure we’re going to hear sirens. And not long after, siren after siren after siren.”

The 28-year-old male driver of the Mercedes-Benz, his two 22-year-old male passengers and a 20-year-old woman were all taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 52-year-old woman driving the Landcruiser was also taken to hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.

Queensland Ambulance Service medical director Steve Rashford said described the injuries as “life-threatening”.

“This is a very high impact crash, involving five patients. All patients suffered a combination of life threatening injuries, including internal bleeding and multiple fractures,” Mr Rashford said.

“This incident consumed significant resources on an already very busy Saturday night, this included five ambulances, two critical care paramedics and ambulance medical officers and a supervisor.”

Forensic Crash Unit investigations are ongoing and will establish if speed was a contributing factor to the crash.
