A surfer who needed help in the water has gone missing after another surfer saw the man, but was unable to reach him because of rough conditions.
Police were notified about 4.35pm on Friday that a male surfer in his 40s was seen by another surfer in the water at Surfer’s Point near Margaret River.
Police were told the male surfer required assistance, but rough conditions meant he was unable to be helped.
A number of police and emergency services were called to Surfer’s Point to carry out a huge search and rescue operation of the water and beach area.
“At this time the surfer has not been located,” a police spokesman said.
Surfer’s Point was closed on Saturday while police, marine rescue and jet skis continued their search.
