Legendary comedian Jerry Seinfeld has been seen leaving his Melbourne hotel room following yet another show which was interrupted by hecklers.
The 70-year-old left the Park Hyatt dressed down in a blue cobalt polo shirt, jeans and white sneakers before he was seen disappearing into a black Mercedes-Benz van alongside an entourage.
Seinfeld is set to perform his final show in the Australian leg of his tour at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Saturday night, following a run of performances which have been plagued by pro-Palestinian protesters.
On Saturday night, hecklers interrupted his show in the final 10 minutes of his performance, chanting: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” earning a retort from the comedian and boos from the crowd.
“Oh, you’re back. The protesters are back! I missed you,” said Seinfeld.
“Listen, you and I are in the same business.
“Our business is to get people to see things the way we see it. The problem is, you’re in the wrong place. Do you hear how well I’m doing?”
He joked the protesters didn’t “belong” at his show before making another gag that the very same protesters had paid money to attend his show, with tickets beginning at $240 and ranging all the way up to $475.
“I think you need to go back and tell whoever’s running your organisation, ‘We just gave more money to a Jew,’” Seinfeld said.
“That cannot be a good plan for you. That’s not what you want. That’s the whole problem. You have to come up with a better plan.”
The protesters were eventually escorted from the show by police.
A group of about 13 protesters also gathered outside the venue before the show, with activists holding signs which was: “f**k Jerry Seinfeld”.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said officers spoke to a small group of protesters who later left the event without incident.
“One protester also left the show later of their own accord. No arrests were made last night,” they said.
“As with all major events, people can expect to see a visible police presence to ensure public safety on the weekend (of June 22 and 23).”
Similar incidents have happened at Seinfeld’s earlier shows.
Footage from the comedian’s Tuesday performance in Sydney showed two men disrupting the show, standing up and yelling at Seinfeld, with the audience booing their behaviour.
In the footage, one of the men can be heard yelling “shame on you”, before calling Seinfeld a “hack” and a “fraud”.
Both men then held up the Palestinian flag before one started yelling “free Palestine”.
The comedian snapped back at the protesters, before they were removed by security.
“You have strong political feelings but you don’t know where to say them,” he said.
“You think that ruining the night … it doesn’t affect me … all these people, you’re ruining their night.”
